My son, Keith J. Hall, was stationed at K.I. for about 10 years. I visited the base many times, as he lived in base housing. Great web site. Brings back many memories of that beautiful area. Thanks for all your efforts!

Hello! We must have lived on KI Sawyer at the same time - I lived there from late 1964 to late 1971 when we moved to CO. I have been wanting to go back and visit - is the base even still there? I heard the turned it into a regional airport. Is the housing still there? I went to McDonald elementary for a year before we moved and remember the woods with the bears in the middle of the base with the watertower. If you have any info you'd be willing to share I would appreciate it. Thanks, Jen

What a great site - brings back so many memories. My Dad was stationed at KI from 77-82. I attended KI Sawyer Elem for 1st - 5th grade. Great to see pics of the school now. It was a great place to live as a kid. Many, Many great memories ice skating, sledding, snowmobiling, picking blueberries and rollerskating. Lots of freedom to roam and be a kid-something my children will never have. Thanks for doing such a great job on the site so we can all remember the good times.

Corey, I remember you from my time in the Flight Surgeon's Office. A few other 644 names I recall are Joe valley, Phil Penrod, Dave Vandenberg, Bruce Wong. I had 11 winters under my belt. I remember the B-52's coming off alert, the Space Shuttle exploding at lift off, the wild fire behind the base and the crash on the flight line. I even remember most of that crew, Joe valley was the gunner, Mike Debruzzi, Anthony Phillips, Greg Smith, Maj Kruger. A lot more good memories than bad though!

I was a tailgunner stationed there from 1988-1990. Looking back,it was an enjoyable time, however it still remains the only place that I have ever been where they measure time in terms of winters.Instead of saying "I was there for 2 years",for example, people who have spent time at KI say, "I was there for 2 winters!"

I was assigned to KI Siberia from Sep 77 to Mar 83, at first with the 410 Security Police Squadron (B Flight) then with the 410 Combat Support Group (Base Ops). Sawyer has always been the best part of my Air Force career. From the distance of 25 years I realize I've never enjoyed myself as I did while I was there. Sure, I griped about it just as much as the next guy, the snow, cold, KI Crud and such, but God to be able to go back. SMSgt Gerald Allen, USAF (Ret)
