Hello,

It was great to see the pictures of Sawyer, both the before and after. We lived on Packet St. from 1961 to 1964 than moved to the new split levels. I don’t recall the street. I have many fond memories of that time. Standing in below zero tempertures waiting for the school bus for Gwinn, super cold water of the lakes, and ORIs. I have a few newspaper articles. When I find them I will scan them and send them along.

My father was NCOIC of the alert branch maintenance for the 52’s.

Thanks again for the great site.

Regards,
George Sutterley

I am sorry to hear of Larry's passing. My father and I contributed a number of pictures to this website after our trip back to Sawyer in June 2004. I even sent him a video of Martin's Lake that I had taken. He didn't get a chance to go down there during his visit. I hope that this site can keep going. It keeps alive old memories.

Hello; I was stationed at Sawyer from 76 - 80, working the 410th SPS - LE. My son was born in the base hospital. What a great website - it brings back lots of memories. I visited the base in 05, lots of changes, and some disrepair. I'd love to hear from anyone who was there......

TO ALL OF THE FANS OF THIS SITE---PLEASE READ. I have found out that Larry Antley the great guy who started this website has passed away some four months ago. His wife Martha posted a message back to me about it when I questioned why all of the spam in the guestbook lately hadn't been deleted. She has only recently been able to check this site. I send this message out to everyone to ask that you send your condolences to the family and give our thanks for all of the memories that Larry gave us to share. There will never be another K.I. Sawyer but the legacy Larry left us with this site will go on forever. With deepest sympathy & gratitude, Marilyn & Russ Tacheny

I was stationed at K.I. from the middle of 1968 to late 1972. I was in charge of the Fire Control shop in the 410th a**qdn. for a time, then worked on the MIMICS test program until it finished in 1972. We lived On Ginie Street. Some of our neighbors on the street were the Millers, the Drakes, the Petrash's, the Clarks, the Doyles, and the Youngs. We really enjoyed the camping and fishing in the area in the summer and the snowmobiling in the winter. I also worked part time in the auto hobby shop .

I was stationed at KI Sawyer from 1967 to 1971.I just got back yesterday from KI Sawyer. My pal Al Fish and I wanted to see the base one more time. I must tell you the housing area is not in the best condition. The barracks that I once stayed in are in disrepair. The NCO Club, the commissary, and the BX are all empty. It is really is a shame to see the base in that condition. It really could be so much more than what it is. Still going there brought back so many great memories. I really hope KI Sawyer can become a thriving community once again. I will never be back, but I took plenty of pictures that will last me for the rest of my life.
