After tech. school I arrived at K.I. Sawyer in March, 1960, amidst the largest snowfall I had ever seen, and I am originally from Minnesota. When I entered the mess hall I was obviously a new person, as everyone knew each other, as the base was so small. When I left in 1964, there were 15,000 people on base, including the housing area. I worked at the base hospital during this time, and was attached to the veterinary section. Anybody working at the base hospital during this time may contact my e-mail, let us see if we remember each other after all this time.

My wife, Amy, & I were stationed at K.I. 1989 - 1993. My first couple years, I worked in the tanker and bomber phase docks, mainly bomber phase. I spent my last couple years in the hydraulic shop with Dennis Lentz, Walter Mattey, Dean Cruz, Mike Cohen, Phil Glass, Rick Gardner, Tim Wilkinson, Goolsby, and others. My daughter, Madison, was born at the base hospital in 1992. My wife worked at the base child development center. I really enjoyed the hunting, fishing, golfing...a lot of friends and memories. We really enjoyed it there. We leave this weekend to go back for the first time since we left in '93. Gonna show Madison where she was born and where we lived. We lived at 164 Panther but started out living in a tiny trailer in a trailer park in Little Lake. I see Rick Gardner posted here, would love to hear from anyone who remembers us.

Great web site...served at KI for nearly three years, right up to the closure. Pretty sad that the powers saw a need to do this. Miss it a lot but get to return to the American Legion picnic every couple of years and talk with local retitees and family.

We were stationed at KI Sawyer AFB from Sept 77 - Dec 80. And we lived on Dart St! We lived at 309 Dart from about June of '79 till we PCS'd out in Dec of 80. What fun memories to see your great pictures. We last visited the area in '92. Our oldest son was born at the KI Sawyer AFB hospital in '78. Wow... the memories your pictures brought back. Thank you so much for this site.

I was in the 62nd FIS from 6/63 - 3/67. I was crew chief on the flight line. Last 3 numbers on the tail of my aircraft was 986 as I recall. I also was shift chief at our alert facility. I was under Master Sgt. Norman Johnson. I also remember a lot of guys including Sgt. Rich Stalker, Sr. Master Sgt. Gibson, Chief Master Sgt. Lature, and the "Big Boss" Col Amos Waage. As I looked through the pictures, on page 8, 5th click, I found myself. I am the 2nd from the left holding welcome back signs after the 62nd had won all the marbles at Tyndell in 1965. I am proud to have been part of that great squadron and it's glorious history. I couldn't go the "shoot off" because we were expecting our 3rd child. Never did find out who won the "pool" on when she would be born, weight and so forth. While at KI we lived at 356 Stratofort Dr. If anyone remembers me, PLEASE contact me. I would love to hear from them.
