I am hoping this message is seen by Marilyn Tacheny. I'm the one looking for Ron or Linda Sortor and saw your entry about linda living in Gwinn. I checked information and they have no listing for her or her husband. Do you know any other way to contact her? I would appreciate any help you can give me. Please feel free to email me. Thank you.

I was at Sawyer from 1977-1979 in the 410 MMS weapons load shop. Sawyer was a great place. I would like to go back and visit the area and old friends.

Served with the 410th SPS (Weapon Systems Security) from 1971 to 1973. Had a nice e-mail conversation with Bob Ligget, who posted here. He was there at the same time. durantfamily.net

Had to make another entry today after reading all the others from this guestbook and the old one too. Realized I never mentioned my husbands name in my other entry and after all, he was the military guy. So...Russ is his name, he was in field maintenance, again on the flightline. Saw one message from Don Sink who was looking for old neighbors Linda & Ron Sorter. Well I know they divoriced, she remarried to Steve Longren and moved to Gwinn, they are in the phonebook. As far as I know that's where they still are, I talked to Linda when we there with our grandaughters. Was so much fun reading all the entries, feel like I have a whole new family, am amazed that there are so many people who have the same attachment to this place as we do. We also remember the snow storm of 1966 and the orange balls we had to attach to our car antenias just to be seen. I worked as a waitress at both the NCO club and the Officers club, Russ worked part time at the family store after our twins were born. Geez there are just so many memories, really enjoyed this site. I'll be checking it out periodically to see if anybody we knew back in those days remembers us.

My husband was stationed at K.I. Sawyer when we got married in February of 1966, we spent the first three years of our marriage living at 423 Mustang Drive. He was a machinest on the flightline. Our twins, a boy & a girl were born at the base hospital a month premature. In 1973 we went back to K.I. Sawyer as our base of choice after my husband crosstrained at Lowrey A.F.B. in Denver, Colorado. We only spent one year there that time as my husband got orders for Okinawa. We took our two grandaughters on a three day trip to Michigan about ten years ago, mainly to show them where there Mother was born and where we lived, took video of them in front of our old quarters to bring home and show the rest of the family. We had alot of fun and visited our old neighbor living in Ishpeming and originally from there, who was our next door neighbor on Mustang Drive when we first moved there. We have stayed in contact for 40 years now. Have always loved the area. We too felt sad seeing all the changes.

This is in memerory of Dennis Coenen who was stationed with me and served with the 410th Security Police Squadron at K.I. Sawyer A.F.B. from 1971-1973. Denny was from Appleton, Wi. and passed away on October 11, 2006 at the age of 56. Dennis was the only Air Force friend I kept in contact with over the years. He will be truly missed.

I haven't had a chance to look at the sight yet but am very excited to have found it. Was at K.I. from Sep '85 until May '92. I had two of my children there. Many good memories. Great friends and better times - those were the good old days. I have hooked up with an old friend from K.I. and we are planning on going up in the summer of 2007 to show them their birthplace.

Man...This brought back HUGE Memories. My Father was stationed @ KI Sawyer in the early 80's. I really loved this place as a child. I remember the awesome winters. I would go sledding down DEADMAN HILLS...if anyone remembers this place. Had some close calls trying to walk across a creek when it was frozen...the ice would start breaking and I was jumping from ice piece to ice piece to get back to the bank! I could go on and on! Anyways, this was a great site that brought back great mememories. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

I was a young medic at the hospital from Sep 61 to Jun 64 (4 winters!). I was caught up in the transfer from ADC to SAC and thus never rotated elsewhere. I did get thru a lot of hours at the "NMU", and have lots of fond memories of the numerous friends I made. I retain a real afinity for the UP and visit there as often as I can.

Stationed at KIS from June 1976 - Jan 1980, 410 Bomb Wing Aircrew Life Support Shop. Lived off base for a time in Gwinn and New Swanzy. Haven't been back since a short visit the summer of 1981. I remember the Alibi, the Nordic and Delft Theaters downtown, and the "giant" Marquette Mall! A buddy, Mark Morin, and I would go out to eat each payday to a different restaruant around Marquette/Ishpeming, etc. Attended the Lake Superior Christian Church,('78-'79)at the Crossroads. Would love to hear from former base mates.
