I was stationed at K.I. Sawyer from 87-92. I was a jet engine mechanic on the BUFF's and -135's. I have many good memories of my military time, and much of it was spent at K.I. I mostly worked Phase Inspection, and I wish I remembered more of the names of people I worked with. If you see this post and feel that we may have worked together, I would enjoy hearing from you. I miss the fishing in the U.P., I DO NOT miss shoveling snow! I miss the fall beauty of the area...absolutely gorgeous. I met and worked with many fine people while I was there...very good memories.

Stationed March 83 April 88. 410 Trans. NCOIC heavy equipment repair shop. This site is cool my son and I checked it out and it brought back memories. We used to play on the sand dunes outside the back gate by bunny hill. My only daughter was born December 83. Hope to hear from anyone I worked with.

I was 1st stationed at K.I. from 75-78 as a Boom operator with the 46 ARS,we lived on Talon. We came back in 85-87, I was the NCOIC of the Command Post and lived on Vigilante. We had a great time both times and made some great friends.
Without a doubt the best assingment of my 20's of service.

I was stationed at K.I. in the late 80's. I think i lived at 333 Dart street. We used to drive to Marquette just to eat fast food, but Upper Michigan is a nice place. I did a lot of fishing there. Salmon run fishing I liked most.
thanks

WOW!! what memories my friend. My Dad was stationed at KI from 60-71 when he retired, and moved us back to his home town in Lewes, DE. Good old KI was a place for a young boy to grow up. I remember spending many times riding my bike with fishing pole in hand heading out the South gate to fish at Sporley, and you are certainly right. Little Trout Lake was sooooo damn cold to swim in. In fact, Little Trout Lake was the lake I finally learned to float in by myself, and finally learned how to swim. I remember riding in the school bus heading off to Gwinn Middle School. Thank you for the nice pictures and memories. I am a private pilot, and my brother and I are planning on flying up there next summer.. Cheers! Jim

I was a 46250 weapons mechanic and was stationed at KI Sawyer AFB from Nov 1973 until April 1977. I worked on the flight line in loading. We loaded the AGM28 Hound Dog,AGM69 SRAM, ADM-20 Quail, AlA-17 flares and 20MM ammo. I froze my a** OFF there but was young and enjoyed working with everyone. I married my wife Kay just before I came up there and we're still married 33 years later. I also got my private pilot's license in Marquette 1975.

I too was stationed at Sawyer from around 65-71. Lived first on Ventura St. then finally on Titan St. Also attended Sawyer Elementary then Gwinn Middle School. Also considered Sawyer, Gwinn, Little Lake & surrounding areas as a boyhood paradise. Dad retired in 71 so we moved back to his hometown in Delaware. Suggest you check out the classmates website for school mates from Gwinn Middle & High Schools!
