Was tanker crew chief at K.I. from Apr. 65 to Dec. 67. Great place, great job. Young Tiger, Arc Light, Chrome Dome, etc. I think I was gone more than I was there. My tanker was one of three that had test teletype gear on it and I was at Eilsson a lot. Also remember driving to Marqette in snow storms to see Iron Rangers play at the old Palestra. Great fishing at lakes around base and at Goose Lake. We lived at 405 Mustang. Would love to know the whereabouts of some good friends and neighbors, Ron and Linda Sorter. Thank you very much for this site.

I have many delightful memories of living at KI Sawyer from April 1961 for several years. Our family also consisted of my husband, M/Sgt. Monnie L. Gore and two sons Monnie Jr. and Stephen. The weather was quite severe at times but each season was beautiful. Life seemed to be lived at a much slower pace with going for long walks, berry picking, fishing, water skiing on the surrounding lakes, and bundling up to watch some of the boys' baseball games sometimes even in July. I don't recall any of the crime and hustle-bustle that young people have to contend with at this time. KI Sawyer will always remain one of my most cherished memories.

HI! I was a student at NMU in 1984-85. We used to see the KC135's and the Bombers fly over Marquette it always made me feel secure. I felt a certin loss in 1995 when K.I Sawyer was closed. In 2003 my friend and former Room Mate who works for the USPS was transfered to Marquette and he rented one of the Units on DART drive we went to visit him and realived lost of the memories you showed in here. Thanks fr a great web site! Fred

I was there from 1984-1985 living with my mom and stepdad who was in the air force. It was by far one of the worst moments of my life getting teased and tormented by j***s everyday on the bus going to school...was suicidal, seeing psychiatrists. Thank God I made it through those bad times and got the heck out and moved back to Florida by my dad where I was at home again. Now i'm back up north just not that far enjoying my life with my great husband and kids but that is one memory I can definitely do without, still trying to forget. I did eventually make a few friends but it was too late. For those few friends I had that might remember me, please write, i'd love to hear from you! A few names I remember...Barb,Joey,Theresa,Jim the redhead and his redhead sister...very cool people!

My Dad was stationed at Sawyer from 1969-1972. We lived on Hercules street and based on your pics, our duplex was identical to ones on Dart, Savage Talon and obviously others. I do vaguely remember the surrounding streets' names. Your site brought back some awesome memories. Anybody remember black bears being in the forests behind our houses? Maybe my siblings and I just went a little further in the woods than we should have. Would love to find my neighbor Patricia O'Sullivan. Have always considered her my best childhood friend.

Thank you for the site. I was at K.I. July 1978 to January 1980. I hated it then, wish I were there now. I now appreciate the clean air, the beautiful lakes, the fall colors and most of all the wonderful friends. I will return.
