I was stationed at Sawyer from Sept 66 to Mar 70. I was a B-52 crew chief assigned to the 410 OMS. I had a lot of friends in Gwinn, so spent a lot of time there, and at Rosies. Considering the long, cold winters, it was a good time just the same. Anyone have access to unit patches from that time, please let me know. I lost all of my stuff in a move sometime ago. Thanks

I was born at Sawyer in 1972. My dad Mike Myles was stationed as Sawyer from 1971 - 1979. We lived at 344 Stratafort. I have so many wonderful memories of my early childhood in Michigan. I remember the Mehlbergs and Scott and Brian (?)I remember Leigh as a neighbor but have no clue on last names.... We moved to Wisconsin in 1979. We visited Sawyer often. We were so sad to hear it would be closing...We came back many times for the Airshow - but the last one was the most memorable. Would love to hear from anyone who remembers us or our time there...sorry for the short and choppy sentences!

OUTSTANDING WEBSITE, I was a B-52H Crew Chief, and stationed there from 1984 to 1988. My family and I lived on 100 Caribou Street. I pulled alot of duty on the alert pad. When we got bored between the glaxons we used to challenge the tanker crew chiefs to wrestling matches. I believe that I pulled alert with Bob Erdt. What a great place to be stationed. Remember the snow tows!!! Mike Green and myself were the 1987 Giant Sword B-52 Crew Chiefs that were held at Fairchild AFB, in Spokane WA. SSGT Gamez lived across the street from me. Whatever happened to the sheriff, MSGT Steve Worley???

I lived at KI Sawyer from 1973 to 1975. I was 10 in 1973. My stepfather a doctor was required to serve two years there. We lived on Dagger St. I don’t remember the house number but it I think it was right about where the D in Dagger appears on the KI Sawyer housing map. I learned to ski at the base ski hill. I also remember a sled hill on Canberra. It had two paths one had a nice curve and the other went straight down the middle. I always crashed when I took the straight run. The sledding was much better then they had been in Newport News, Virginia.

As a former NCO (now retired) that served at Sawyer from 88 - 91 with one deployment in support of Desert Storm, I must say your website has brought back many memories. Both of my children are Uppers born at the 410th Hospital. My children are now 16 and 17 and I found this link on my daughters computer. Looking at the photo's of what has become of this base is quite stimulating. Thank you for taking the time to put this page together....

Stationed at Sawyer 1983-1989 working in the 410th BMW...scheduling and intelligence. Worked in the BMW HQ building for a while, pulling duty in the Command Post from time to time. Then moved to SAGE building after refurbishing a large portion of the first floor for intelligence. Lived at 325 Commando...and really loved the area. Thanks for the great site. Anybody who went to the reunion in 2005...Did you happen to see the Overhead large photo of Sawyer taken by SR-71? I sent that photo to the Chamber specifically for the reunion.

I enjoyed your Website. I am a 1997 Graduate of Gwinn MI and lived at KI from 1985 - 1989. My father retired from the AF and stayed in the area until I graduated from Gwinn. I when the the BRAC process and had to say goodbye to many good friends. From the UP...I went onto Michigan State University where I got an engineering degree and I'm living in Fort Worth TX and working the the aerospace industry. I have to say...All those big Hangers sitting out on the flight-line makes moving back to KI and starting my own business tempting. Anyway...I enjoyed your website. Mark Berry
