I am a sophmore in high school and grew up for a few years out on the old AFB. I am planning after High school to go into the USAF, to be a mechanic. My grandpa Melvin Way was a mechanic and stationed at KISAFB, but im not really sure when that was. I really appraite this site, it shows the care for all our troops;past and present! thank you!!! *Sorry for spelling and grammer mistakes not the best at them* Bye-Bye

I lived at KI about 3 years 91-94. My dad was the one that worked on the base, i was about 10 at the time. My dad has the same name as me. I miss this base the most out of all that i remember. I loved marquette and all the open space around the base. It seemed like just nothing but pines and red dirt for miles. Tsgt. Ernest (Ernie) Godin Jr is my dads name.

Stationed there until 69 took the early out. lived in Little Lake. My landlord then was Rich Sorenson. Now i understand he be a big deal at KI. his daughter, Cindy ran the pizza shop on the outskirts of Guinn the last time I was there in the 80's. Got my milk and mail at Browns then went next door for a few drinks went home caught hell from the misses??hehehe. Anyone remember Mustang Sally? she was the owners daught of Browns.I was in OMS and a crew chief of 018.Would like to hear from some folks around that time. How about the beach and rock island. great beach but you had to have a few before entering the water?

I was stationed at KI from 89-94 and loved every second. I was married, had my son, made alot of great freinds and pretty much matured there. I will never forget my time there and will always refer to it as my growing time. Sure, the winters were extreme but, I have always bragged about them. I remember arriving at KI on May 9th(No snow and about 50 degrees) and on May 11th ,BOOM, 42 inches of snow!WOW! I never went snow sking at Marquett Mountain(which I reget). The summers were great at Presque Isle Park. I will always remember the Albino Deer! And not to mention the seafood fest! I really want to return and show my son where he was born. What a great place!

I was stationed at KI Sawyer from Jan 1974 to Aug 1977. I was a member of the 410th OMS squad. I was a ground crew chief of the KC-135A Tankers. I got to fly to many foreign locations and still dream about it to this day. I was sad to hear that the base would close in the 90's. I took my wife their for a visit. The place was the same with one exception. There were no people anywhere. It felt like a ghost town and I was the ghost. Kinda like the Twilight Zone episode where the fighter pilot inadvertently flew into the future. I enjoyed my time at KI Sawyer and would like to hear from any who shared that time with me.

Wow... I am so glad to run across this web page. I lived at KI Sawyer AFB from '76 - '80 when my dad was stationed there. Each year I tell myself that I will head back and see the area again. I attended LEOP McDonald? and Gwinn Middle School. I use to live at 366 Stratofort. Thank you so much for the memories and pictures. I remeber going to Ski hill... and to Trout lake. Every Saturday my family bowled and went skating.

MY DAD (JAMES "JIMMY" BOGGS) WAS STATIONED AT KI SAWYER WHEN I WAS BORN IN OCT 1974. I BELIEVE HE WAS THERE FROM 72-75. HE PASSED AWAY 3 YEARS AGO AT THE YOUNG AGE OF 54. I MISS HIM DEEPLY. I WONDER IF ANYONE REMEMBERS HIM AND COULD TELL ME WHAT HE WAS LIKE BACK IN THOSE DAYS. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT HIS LIFE WAS LIKE BACK THEN WHEN MY SISTER WAS SMALL AND I WAS BORN. I KNOW I WAS NAMED AFTER THE DAUGHTER OF A FRIEND OF HIS THERE, TRINA MARIE PENDEGRASS. ANYWAY, ANY MEMORIES SOMEONE MIGHT HAVE OF HIM WOULD BE GREAT. I HAVE ENJOYED THIS SITE, THANK YOU!
