While it's nice to share old pictures and fond memories, anyone expecting to return and find the former base as it used to be should be prepared for disappointment. The housing area has been transformed into low income housing which includes the associated problems of poor upkeep, increased crime, etc. The "new" multi-million dollar fitness center that was built just before the base was closed is now a neglected YMCA with huge cracks clearly visible within the exterior facade. Numerous companies and corporations have explored setting up shop on the old base during the last few years only to decide against it after visiting it in person. My negative opinion, along with those expressed by several others in this guestbook, are based upon what we've witnessed with our own eyes when visiting what used to be KI Sawyer.

Wow, my sister told me abou this site. Our family was stationed at K.I from '82-'86. We lived at 123 Fury. My sister Jenny and I were Davenports at the time. This site brings back so many memories. I broke my nose playing football at K.I. (LOL) I've been able to keep in touch with some of my old friends, Kristy Lockhart, Pam, Chris Worley, Justin Worley, Kathy Halverson.

I was so glad to find this site. I didn't have many pics of the base. I lived there with my family from 82-86. My last name was Davenport at the time. We lived on Fury. This was my favorite base. Great place for kids!

Hello to all of my old K.I. and Gwinn friends. Miss you all and hope that via this site we can reconnect. My family and myself lived on K.I. from 1982-1989. Paid a visit back in 2004, man how things had changed. Glad to see it hadn't been bulldozed.

I was stationed at KI Sawyer from 1988-1993 in SPS. I started out on B-Flight and then went to the CSC section and finished up in QC before getting a medical discharge. Really enjoyed the winters...yes I loved to snowmobile. I really enjoyed looking over this website and did go back to the UP in 2005. Things are really different and the building where the Armory & CSC used to be is gone, new aircraft hangars there now for the airport. Anyone that would like to contact me, drop me an email. Take care.

Good Site - many pleasant memories. Lived there with my wife Marilyn and my oldest son was born there in '68. I was a Voodoo Medicine Man worked on F101 auto pilot from Jan '67 til Mar '70. Lived at 127 Panther. We've been back to visit 3 times in recent years. It's sad to see it so run down.
